Q&A with Brian DeBoyace
What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy attending sports events. It doesn’t matter the sport, I especially enjoy baseball, hockey, and football. I particularly like going to Buffalo Bills, Syracuse football, and Binghamton University Basketball games.
What are your hobbies?
This summer I tried kayaking for the first time and really enjoyed that. I think that is something that I will continue to do in future summers. I also started to get into photography. I have a lot to learn but it’s something that I enjoy and need to make more time for.
Tell us your favorite local business and why.
Any business that is owned by a customer is my favorite local business. I try to eat, shop, get my car serviced, etc. at our customers’ establishments.
What do you like the most about being a business banker?
The people I meet are passionate and talented. I had no idea of all the cool things happening in our community until I started going out on business calls and learning about people’s businesses. I really enjoy listening to the reasons why someone started their business, what they do, and what their plans for the future are.
What inspired you to pursue a career in business banking?
My first job out of college was in the collections department at Binghamton Savings Bank. It was a tough first job, but I got to work with a lot of different departments and realized that there were a lot of opportunities out there for me. I really didn’t know what I wanted to do but I knew it wasn’t collections. I applied and was accepted into a Management Training program where I spent time in every department over the course of two years. My two favorite departments were Retail and Commercial Loans. At the conclusion of the training program, I was placed in a Binghamton branch as an assistant manager. I loved that my manager at the time did business calls and small business loans and made it a goal to be a branch manager. Long story short, I worked my way up to a Manager and Small Business Development officer and have never looked back.
