Q&A with George Bowen
What are your hobbies?
- Golf – Although I am not very good at it and getting worse.
- Bowling – I am back out of retirement for the third or fourth time.
- Hiking – As long as it is a flat, smooth terrain, even though it never is.
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Competitive, caring, and unfortunately a sore loser.
Tell us your favorite local business and why?
Van Horn Jewelers in Owego. They always know what my family wants, or as they claim “need”, so it is always an easy shopping trip.
What do you like most about being a commercial lender?
Helping customers grow their businesses and become more successful. It is very satisfying watching projects develop and turn out as they hoped. Plus, I’ve had great relationships with all of those customers.
What inspired you to pursue a career in commercial lending?
I think I knew that I wanted to be in banking shortly after college. However, it took me 5 years and 4 different jobs to get there. Finance and money has always been of great interest (haha, see what I did there) to me. After 34 years, I haven’t looked back.
