Lupo’s Spiedies & Tioga State Bank: Partners for Generations

Mouth-watering marinated chunks of chicken, pork or lamb, best grilled on skewers over an open flame and served on a sandwich roll, spiedies are a Southern Tier tradition and a legacy of the Lupo family. Their spiedies and marinades originated in Endicott at the Lupo’s Quality Meat Market founded by Sam A. Lupo, Sr. and his brother John in 1951. Sam, Jr. entered the business after college and was joined by his brother Steve. Sam’s son Eliott is the third generation to work in the family business. With the backing of Tioga State Bank, the Lupos have run restaurants, a USDA meat plant, a bottling facility, and now a wholesale marketing operation that brings their products to spiedie, chicken, sausage and marinade lovers throughout the northeast and mail order customers from coast to coast.

“TSB blends high-tech features and personal service to make banking easy.”

Once they began doing their business banking with TSB in 2006, the Lupos then turned to TSB for their personal banking services: checking, savings, mortgages, home equity and other loans. Sam credits TSB with being great communicators in both the good times and the lean times. He said, “We like that they are locally owned, and decision making is right here so it’s fast and fair. TSB has helped us grow in terms of size and profitability.” Their banking representative Jim Savage (AVP, senior small business lender, community office manager) has worked with Lupo’s for nearly 20 years. Jim said, “We financed the purchase of their building and equipment when they decided to manufacture and bottle their marinades in house.” Through the years, TSB has been there to finance their new water-based dicer, marinade dispenser, packaging machines, and other automated equipment. Jr. VP Eliott Lupo sums it up nicely: “TSB blends high-tech features and personal service to make banking easy.”

Sam calls TSB a great partner in both their business and personal lives. “I enjoy going to the bank to see Jim, Sue and the rest of the team. They take good care of us. We’ve become friends. I’d say to anyone, if your needs are not being fully met by your banking institution, I suggest talking to TSB. I promise it won’t be time wasted.”

“TSB is a great organization and a great partner.”

Lupo’s and TSB are both actively involved in the community, always trying to make Broome County a better place. Sam says, “We both sponsor the Broome County Council of Churches’ Lives of Commitment Breakfast, which honors community volunteers who have gotten an award for making other people’s lives a little bit better. And we both do a lot with the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW). TSB is a great organization and a great partner.”
